In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. (1 Thessalonians 5:18, KJV)
Why is Jim Hiskey spending so long on this verse?, you might be asking all these months later.
Because it has the power to change a person. Even add years to your life.
Consider Colossians 2:6-7 (ESV):
Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.
My desire for the New Year is to follow the apostle John’s mandate: “…as he is, so also are we in this world” (1 John 4:17b, ESV).
So I want to act more like Jesus, think more like him, and talk more like him.
Overflowing in thanksgiving.
Rooted more firmly in Jesus.
Built up in him.
Established in the faith.
To train myself in one of the greatest habits I can give myself, the habit of giving thanks in everything. In the tiny or in the large, in the low or in the high. To give thanks in everything.
Golf is a game honed in practice, where habits are developed for the sake of getting better and better when it counts most. Yet there is no habit that a golf player at any level—or any other person pursuing any other endeavor in the world—could profit from more than the habit of giving thanks in everything.
