I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6, ESV)
Is there anything better than a perfectly struck golf shot? The feeling you get creates a kind of euphoria that satisfies your soul.
Ben Hogan encourages us in his book “Five Lessons, The Modern Fundamentals of Golf” when he states in large letters, “THE AVERAGE GOLFER IS ENTIRELY CAPABLE OF BUILDING A REPEATING SWING AND BREAKING 80.”
I don’t have as many days when I’m “flushing” every shot, and shots go where I want them to, and putting is simple, and the putts go in, but I used to think there was nothing greater than those days.
When I became a father, I quickly learned that some things are much better than a perfectly struck golf shot. As a parent or grandparent, I’m sure you agree that there’s nothing quite like when your kids are little and you get down on one knee to hug them, and they wrap their arms around your neck and hug you with all their heart.
Or when you walk into a situation that a child deems scary, and they reach up and take you by the hand to make sure you are there to protect them. That one melts your heart, too.
I’ve been thinking lately that must be how Jesus feels when we reach out to him and invite him into our lives, when we take him by the hand and walk into life’s difficult situations, knowing that he is there to protect us.
He invites us to draw near to him, and even though it can seem difficult at times, we have to keep seeking him. Scripture uses words that indicate we must maintain a close, ongoing relationship with Jesus.
In John 14:6, Jesus says, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except THROUGH me.” You can’t go through him to the Father unless you draw closer and closer to him.
Later in John 15:7, Jesus says, “If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” What an amazing offering, but it requires that we ABIDE in Jesus, or dwell in him. This requires an intimate closeness to the Savior.
One of the best ways to draw closer to Jesus is through discovery and the encouragement of others, and that is why it is so critical to find a LINKS Fellowship where you can grow in your faith and walk it out with others.
If you’re in a LINKS fellowship, continue to grow in your participation. If you’re not part of a LINKS fellowship, find one. If you can’t find one close to you, reach out to us, and we’ll help you get started.
And once you get involved, keep inviting people you know to join you at the table. Everyone needs to know Jesus. Let’s take as many as we can to Heaven with us! Keep looking up.
