Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. (Colossians 3:12)
Because my wife and I have twin daughters, we’ve celebrated National Look Alike Day, a holiday invented to celebrate identical twins, clones, copycats, and anyone else who you look like or who looks like you. I’ve been mistaken for Mike Pence.
I read an article in a Leisure magazine authored by a lifestyle journalist who enjoys writing about anything related to fashion. The topic was tips for dressing like a professional golfer. She claimed there is an identifiable clothing style among professional golfers that gives them a distinctive look.
The advice gave me an internal chuckle because we’ve probably all seen players step up to the tee who dressed like a pro, only to play like me… or worse. Here was the advice she gave, which had nothing to do with improving your play:
Footwear is essential. Make sure to maintain and clean your shoes regularly to avoid bringing a dirty pair and ruining your look.
Do you know of any professional golfers wearing baggy pants or shirts? Probably not. That’s because pro golfers wear the appropriate size for their shirts and pants, not to mention the right type.
Learn from the pros when it comes to looking sleek and sharp in a game. You may have noticed how neatly their shirts are tucked in during play. You can achieve a stylish look like your favorite pro by simply tucking your shirt in.
A stylish belt can enhance your golfing look transformation. It complements your stylish, professional look by accentuating both your shirt and your pants. Make sure the belt color matches what you are wearing or has a neutral color so as not to draw attention to your waistline.
Getting dressed up for a golf game isn’t complicated once you know the basics. When it comes to style, a simple, cohesive, and neat look can give you a professional look.
Are you giggling yet? I’d like to think that we can look more and more like Jesus, both on the course and in our daily lives. The Apostle Paul suggests these clothing tips:
So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, and quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it. (Colossians 3:12-14, The Message)
Prayer: Sometimes, my internal dress lacks intention and causes me to live a self-focused life. May I hold up the mirror of Your Word to see how I am dressed so that I can impress people with who Jesus is, not who I am.
