Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” (John 4:13 & 14)

This year, I have played in several tournaments and qualifying events that were contested in extreme heat.  If you’re like me, you’d prefer heat over cold to play the game of golf.

However, I have seen several players limp off the course with heat exhaustion, possible sun strokes, and even one golfer having EMS called after passing out.

Staying hydrated for those summer days of golf starts the night before, continues during the round, and even post-play by drinking the right beverage. The benefits are better thinking, improved circulation, and fewer cramps.

One of the most impactful episodes of “The Chosen”, for me, is the scene with the woman at the well in Season 1 Episode 8.  I revisit the scene often as it continues to show me new insights. You can view it at  https://youtu.be/5MMgEJ37sbg

Jesus encountered a woman who had been married multiple times and was currently living with a man. I find myself empathizing with her because of personal reasons I’ll share.

Feeling as though life had slipped by her with many unmet expectations, such as feelings of being unworthy, grinding out the daily task of getting fresh water, and having to retrieve the water in the heat of the day or face scorn and ridicule by the more “honorable women”.

My personal reasons are that I had a mother who chose to give me life even though she already had a two-year-old child and was still unmarried when she became pregnant with me.

I was the second of four illegitimate children born to the same mother and father. After my dad was arrested and sent to Atlanta Federal Prison, my mother faced the ridicule and humiliation from many men and women.

Do you feel like the woman at the well, thirsty, hurting, lonely, and the object of scorn? When we meet Jesus and drink freely from the Living Water, life changes!

When Jesus began to tell the woman at the well about her past life, perhaps to prove He was the Messiah, he shifted the focus to what the “Living Water” would do for her.  It would quench her thirst forever!

Are you under the scorching sun, grinding daily to meet the demands of life and responsibilities, trying desperately to fill your cup, to have it satisfied temporarily, only to start searching again in another place?

Maybe it’s time to drink from the One who is the living water and the One who truly satisfies for eternity. His name is Jesus, and He is offering you a free drink!

The story of the woman at the well concludes with the only thing she could do after her encounter with Jesus.  She went and told everyone all that He told her.  The result of her response?

Many people believed in Jesus after hearing from her; however, many more believed because her radical transformation motivated them to seek Jesus for themselves.

How many at your club are searching for something that truly fulfills the longings of our hearts?  Let’s share the “Living Water,” because He truly satisfies.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being everything I need and for truly satisfying my thirst.
