For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23, NIV)

I’ve never met Melanie Green. Earlier this summer, when Green rose to the top of the Epson Tour points list and basically secured her LPGA card for the 2026 season, I decided to reach out to the small-town New Yorker.

But first, as has become the norm for modern-day journalists, I combed through her social media. And there it was, sprinkled in among trophy shots and road snapshots—A Sinner’s Prayer.

I later told Green that this might be the first time I’ve ever seen an athlete share scripture and then invite followers to give their lives to Christ on an Instagram reel.

The post, which went up on Christmas Day last year, features Green wearing a beige sweater with the word “Grateful” scripted across the front.

She reveals one of her favorite verses, Psalm 37:4, “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” And then, wastes no time getting to the heart of the matter:

“If you were to die today, do you know beyond a shadow of a doubt that you’d make it to heaven?” she asks.

Now is a good time to note that Green gave her life to Christ in college while sitting in a car with her older sister. She almost gave up a life of professional golf to attend Bible school after graduating from the University of South Florida; however, she ultimately decided she could do both after the pastor called.

Green’s Christmas Day post was part of a bigger social media campaign called the Gospel Project.

“Dear Lord Jesus,” she begins, asking those listening to repeat the words aloud.

“Come into my heart, forgive me of my sin, wash me and cleanse me, set me free, let me never be the same again. Thank you, Lord, for saving me now. Amen.”

Green’s boldness is wildly refreshing, and she has declared that golf is her ministry. The 2024 British Amateur champion is now a winner on the Epson Tour and well on her way to a much larger platform.

“The Bible tells us that we all need to do the work of an evangelist,” she said.

Jesus! Thank you for the gift of salvation and the promise of eternal life; thank you for giving us all opportunities to “go tell it on the mountain.”

Prayer: Father, may we be bold and purposeful in seeking out those who don’t yet know of your goodness and love.
