And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. (Ephesians 2: 1-3)
The U.S. Government has set May 7, 2025, as the date for requiring everyone to have a real ID when entering certain federal buildings, boarding a commercial aircraft, or entering nuclear power plants.
To get on property to many private clubs as a guest, one must provide a driver’s license at the gate. But do we know our Real ID, which provides current GPS and future destinations?
The first three verses of Ephesians 2 explain where we once were before coming to faith in Jesus: 1. dead in our sins, 2. following the world and Satan, 3. in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body, and children of wrath, like everyone else.
“But God!” From verse 3 until the end of the chapter, Paul shows the Real us if we have placed our faith in Jesus and His finished work on the cross. What did Jesus do?
He took our rags and rebellious lives to redeem us and give us His robe of righteousness; He took our sins, shame, and guilt and gave us His forgiveness, peace, joy, purpose, love, citizenship, and a place in His family. All that we would ever need.
Our Real-Real ID is “in Christ,” and it is also our real address.
Our government Real ID costs us money and time to acquire. It has information about us so others can verify where we can travel, where we live, and our height, weight, hair color, and eye color. Our Real-Real ID has information about what God says about us.
It contains information about who we are in Christ: loved, forgiven, rescued, redeemed, secure, co-heirs with Christ, called, gifted, agents of His love (ambassadors), His friends, more valuable than the birds of the air and flowers in the field, made in His image, and a Holy Temple.
Our Real ID was a gift from God. It tells us where we will live in the future and where we should live right now—in Christ! The next time someone asks you, “Where are you right now?” Say, “In Christ!” It was a gift from God, not something we earned.
Know your Real-Real ID and let what God says about you become more real to you each day.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for the truth of who I really am because of You!
