God’s Word Does It

April 14, 2023

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do. (Hebrews 4:12-13, NASB)

The Bible is the Word of God. Is God’s Word reading you? My mentor once told me, “As you read the Scriptures, the Scriptures read you.” Dwell for a moment on the text above. As we read Scripture, we cannot escape the fact that all things are open and laid bare by God. He knows our thoughts and intentions.

This simple book, What God May Say, is a modest tool to open our souls to the Bible, where God does speak to us.

Andrew Jackson said, “The Bible is the Rock on which the Republic rests.” John Adams, our second President, agrees: “Suppose a nation in some distant region should take the Bible as their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited, what a utopia and paradise this region would be.” Leonard Ravenhill was right: “The Bible is either absolute, or it’s obsolete.”

So, each day, the book What God May Say opens with a Scripture at the top of the page. The next section should illuminate that Scripture and help it come alive. What God may say never contradicts the Scripture or tell us anything that is not in the Scripture.

It is somewhat intimidating for me to use the words “what God may say.” Still, we should all agree that the Bible speaks to us in many ways and that God is leading us and confirming his direction through his written word, as the Holy Spirit confirms his guidance to our minds and hearts.

My story may be similar to yours. I played at Christianity for many years but did not own my faith and had never read the Bible. Are you kidding me? The book was too thick, and there were so many things I thought I could never understand.

At 42, I took my family to a guest ranch in Colorado and heard this minister proclaim God’s Word in a way I had never heard in my Social/Sunday school class and my nice church. It was all about Jesus and not my church attendance. The Scripture in John 14:6 states: “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.’”

This Scripture read me and spoke so clearly to my heart. I needed Jesus. He was the only way. My soul knew I was lost and needed to be found. I asked Jesus to make this real, and He did, and the journey started. I then read his Book and have continued for thirty-seven years.

Maybe this book is a way to have the Ultimate Author communicate with us as we do life and become who he authored us to be. Can you imagine that? At the end of this earthly life, God may say, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant. You fought the fight, you finished the course, and you have kept the faith.” We will then know because we shall see Him as He really is.

Prayer – Thank you for speaking to us. We want to know you better.
