A Generous God- A Thankful People

October 28, 2022

Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. (2 Corinthians 9:7, ESV)

One of the more observable and outstanding things regarding the PGA Tour through all their many decades is what amounts to “giving back.”

It’s a well-documented fact that communities, charities, families, and the military have enormously benefitted from the generosity of the PGA Tour and its partners.

The generosity displayed by these partnerships is one of golf’s more heartwarming characteristics. On January 28th, 2020, the Tour announced that “charitable giving had exceeded 3 billion dollars.”

This cheerful generosity is not limited to the Tour as an organization. Many philanthropic foundations flourish under the capable leadership of individual players and their wives. From Jack and Barbara Nicklaus to Ernie and Liezl Els et al., these caring families have given “time, talent, and treasure” to many noble causes.

The breadth and depth of giving from the platform of golf are seemingly immeasurable. Various organizations host a golf tournament on any given week in any nearby community to raise money for diverse needs. Watching thousands and thousands of volunteers serve the greater good is truly extraordinary.

Links Players, as well, is invested in partnering with other charitable organizations to serve their surrounding communities. As you know, the “K” in Lin-k-s represents kindness. This one plank in our mission platform captures the heart of what we endeavor to accomplish.

Serving others with the “good works” of kindness and love often creates a platform from which the gospel can be shared. After all, Links Players’ ultimate mission is telling others about the good news of God’s redeeming love in Christ Jesus.

Jesus said, “And whoever gives one of these little ones even a cup of cold water because he is a disciple, truly, I say to you, he will by no means lose his reward” (Matthew 10:42).

The truths found in this verse can be applied across any Christian giving endeavor—giving to those in need, doing it because we are his disciples, and being rewarded for it, are all found in this one statement by our Lord.

Finding those in need and meeting those needs frequently earns the right to share the gospel. Diplomatically helping people discover that the kindness shown is “in his name” is critically important.

Doing it “because” we are his disciples is proper motivation indeed. And, finally, knowing that all our acts of kindness don’t go unnoticed by our Lord, who promised to reward those who give. After all, we are blessed to be a blessing to others.

Links Players’ ministry team can do what we do because of your generous giving. Every staff member is indebted to you and your financial gifts that keep us in the fields that are “white unto harvest.”

We want to thank you! We also ask you to pray about supporting us in 2023. To that end, we ask you to consider us in your “year-end” giving plans and month-to-month offerings throughout the following year.

This following week and the first three weeks of December, you will see a banner running across the bottom of our daily devotionals directing those who sense the Lord’s leading to our website. You can discover there how to partner with us and designate that region or staff member you choose to support.

Thank you, and may God continue his richest blessings to you and your family!

Prayer: Father! We are grateful for all your many provisions in our lives. Thank you!
