One Truth

I have given them your word, and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. John 17:14-17 ESV

After five weeks of travel, I embraced my quiet Easter weekend at home. I caught up on administrative duties for the Tracy Hanson Initiative. I filled seven-yard bags with dead trimmings and leaves. I finished a novel. I baked (one of my stress reliever activities). The weather was too cold to play golf, but I did get a box from PING with a new driver, 3-wood, and two hybrids.

On Easter Sunday, I packed my clubs to take along to this week’s EPSON Tour event in Utah. If I have free time from my mentoring and counseling appointments, then I will try to play. I am working on a stronger set of clubs to facilitate my swing and competitive aptitude for this year’s Legends of the LPGA Tour events. It’s been five years and I need a refit.

There is no one size fits all when it comes to golf clubs. Golfers are all sizes, shapes, and have different physical strengths and weaknesses. If you want more consistency in your golf game, then getting clubs that work best for your swing is important.

When it pertains to life, there is one Truth that has been consistent since the beginning of time: Jesus came to bring the kingdom of Heaven to the world. He walked with people, loved people, got to know people, and cared for people. Jesus personified God through his life and teachings. Jesus went to the cross to take on our sin, and when he walked out of the tomb, he put his name on all who would say yes to him.

Before heading to the cross, Jesus prayed for his followers then and for us now. He knew the world was not easy; matter of fact, they (us) would be hated because of Jesus. He prayed, “I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one…sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.”

The truth is Jesus.

Francine Rivers in the epilogue of The Masterpiece writes, “Christians aren’t perfect. We’re in a spiritual battle all our lives with an active, cunning adversary: Satan. We can fall into traps and be seduced by worldly philosophies. Even when we are saved by grace, we suffer consequences. God comforts us, loves us, and shows us the way to walk through this life

While we remain in the world, we are set apart – made holy, clean, and rendered pure. The evil one will war against us daily, but one Truth remains…Jesus took on our sin when he had no sin and set us on a path under God’s protection, grace, and love.

Prayer: Thank you Father for sending your son Jesus. Help us today to keep our eyes focused on you and protect us from the evil one. Give us strength to be like Jesus today.
