But just as it is written, “Things which eye has not seen and ear has not heard, and which have not entered the human heart, all that God has prepared for those who love Him.“ (1 Corinthians 2:9)
Athletic coaches, sports psychologists, and competitive golfers know this truth: preparation is the key to performance. John Wooden, the legendary basketball coach at UCLA, often said, “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”
We know we need due diligence in preparing for a new business opportunity, for marriage, or for a new baby. I vividly remember visiting our daughter the day before the arrival of her first child.
When we walked into the baby’s new room, I witnessed all the new additions: baby beds, changing tables, and stacks of diapers. There were affirmational quotes on the newly painted walls and a rocking chair; a lot of love had gone into the preparation.
The verse above says that God has prepared a place for those who love Him. Jesus told us plainly, “In My Father’s house there are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2).
Think about that. God fearfully and wonderfully made us, remains with us through life’s journey, and now he is preparing a place for our eternal home!
I think God may say, “You have no idea what I have prepared for you!” That statement should rock our world and raise our curiosity. Each season here is preparation for that final season with God, and that lasts forever.
It is written. It will come to pass. In the next life, there is no more preparation. It will be a season that never ends. At some point, everyone ponders the reality of heaven or hell. Regardless of what you decide, our personal belief will not change the reality—both heaven and hell exist.
There is personal belief, and there is also absolute truth. Belief only works well when your personal belief aligns with God’s absolute truth. Trust God on this one. He said so. If it were not so, He would have told us.
Some people do not believe God exists. Their unbelief does not change who God is and what He has promised. There is still absolute truth, and it remains a life-or-death decision. Don’t bet your life that Jesus was wrong.
Are you wagering your eternal destiny on your opinion? Please don’t! Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).
Jesus said that He has prepared a place for us. Heaven is a prepared place for a prepared people. Preparing now means accepting the work done by Jesus and getting ready to meet Him on that day.
Dorothy Day says, “Christians are commanded to live in a way that doesn’t make sense unless God exists.”
Prepare now to meet the God who not only exists but also loves us beyond our comprehension. Did you know that Jesus is preparing a place for you right now?
Prayer – Thank you, Lord Jesus, that You not only saved us and stayed with us but that you have also prepared a place with you forever.
