“I am the Alpha and the Omega—the beginning and the end,” says the Lord God. “I am the one who always was, who is, and who is still to come—the Almighty One” – Revelation 1:8 (NLT).
When I started playing golf forty-two years ago, I was taught it’s not how you start but how you finish your round. Have you ever had a round where you begin so badly that you couldn’t think straight? I once found myself in a tournament where I had a ten on the second hole. My partner said to me, “Hang in there; we have a lot of holes left.”
What a great reminder! I calmed myself down and remembered it is not how you start but how you finish. Surprisingly, we finished as the leaders in the clubhouse after the first round of a two-day tournament. I thanked the Lord, and I also thanked my partner.
In Revelation 1:8, we are reminded that God is the Alpha (beginning) and the Omega (End). As in golf, it’s not how you start but how you finish. There might be some of you who have not placed your faith in Jesus Christ. Perhaps some of you have recently returned to the faith of your childhood. Perhaps some of you are struggling to consistently walk out your faith. We hear these stories in our Links Fellowships all the time. The Lord Jesus loves you, and that is good news! It’s never too late to start on the journey.
It’s never too late to start on the journey.Recently, both my dad and my colleague, Jeff Hopper, went home to be with the Lord. Both my dad, who was 85, and Jeff (AKA, Grasshopper) entered in the presence of Jesus to hear him say, “Well done, good and faithful servant!” If you are reading this, please know it is never too late. You can begin now. Allow me to encourage you to trust our crucified and risen Savior who died and rose again that all your sins would be forgiven.
The end of Revelation 1:8 says, “…who is and who was and who is still to come—the Almighty One.” We serve the Almighty God, who is the same today, yesterday, and forever.
John 3:16, which is a very familiar verse, could be read as follows: “For God so loved [insert your name], that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
I hope you will follow Christ, and in doing so, come to know the Father.
