But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31, NLT)
Tournament season is upon us! I love this time of the year when your local club may have its club championship, member/member, member/guest, and invitational. Tournament after tournament. No matter what event it might be, it’s the time of the year we get competitive. If you want to be honest with me, it’s OK to say you would love to win an event this year!
As you start this season, I want to encourage you in your golf, but more importantly in your health, marriage, relationships, and more.
We should never consider small challenges small; each one is a big enough opportunity to exercise our faith and show others what God can do in us.Today’s verse from the prophetic book of Isaiah speaks of how those who trust in God will find new strength and soar high like on wings of an eagle. We will run and not grow weary (tired) and we will walk and not be faint (weak).
Have you ever seen an eagle soar over the golf course or some other open space? They fly and glide through the air with ease, just cruising through the sky. That’s what God wants us to do in this life—to feel like this eagle. No worries, but trust.
In recent weeks, I have been encouraged in this kind of faith by our editor and my good friend and brother Jeff Hopper. He is showing me courage in his passage through cancer treatments and eventually toward surgery. It is strength from the Lord.
On his behalf, we are here to hold on to the promises of God. We pray that the Lord will indeed give our “Grasshopper” (our staff’s nickname for him) wings like eagles and that he will walk and not grow faint. This is exactly what we all need in the midst of a long, difficult journey!
I don’t know what circumstances you are facing today. It may seem as incidental as a friendly club tournament. But even there, where our patience can be tested as our expectations are challenged, we need the Lord’s strength to come out the other side having honored Jesus. We should never consider small challenges small; each one is a big enough opportunity to exercise our faith and show others what God can do in us.
Let me encourage you in every challenge to cling to today’s passage as God’s promise to us. If you trust in him for everything, he will not let you down! He will give you the strength you need to endure the trial you are facing or simply the daily work you have been given.
