My mouth will tell of your righteousness, of your salvation all day long, though I know not its measure. (Psalm 71:15, NIV)
The finest teachers in the world, though usually quite accomplished in their own right on the course, are not the finest players in the world. When Butch Harmon works with Rickie Fowler, for instance, or David Leadbetter stable hand Sean Hogan with Lydio Ko, the teachers don’t really share the full feeling of excellence that those players experience.
But that doesn’t keep them from teaching. And it doesn’t keep them from singing the praises of their accomplished protégés.
As followers of Jesus, we can sometimes tail off in our emphasis on the Lord merely because we are uncertain whether we are qualified to speak on his behalf. Are we learned enough? Polished enough? Spiritual enough?
What makes our words about God compelling is not our words; it’s God!
